A mysterious series of drone-like flying objects were spotted late Monday night in the Kamala Border Out Post (BOP) area on the India-Nepal border, causing a stir among villagers and raising concerns within security agencies. According to eyewitnesses and confirmation by security forces, between 15 and 20 drones appeared in the night sky, entering from the Indian side in the north and moving eastwards before returning west and vanishing northward into Nepalese airspace.
The unidentified aerial vehicles (UAVs), described by locals as “bright, fast-moving, and noiseless,” triggered speculations ranging from surveillance operations to potential cross-border mischief. The Border Security Force (BSF) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) units stationed along the frontier have officially acknowledged the sightings.
“Our troops observed multiple illuminated aerial objects over Kamala BOP. They were seen entering from the Indian side and later moving into Nepal’s northern sector,” confirmed Deputy Commandant Vivek Ojha of the 48th Battalion of the SSB.
SSB personnel stationed near the Janaki Nagar BOP reportedly saw the objects returning northward towards Nepal after their brief east-west arc across Indian airspace. While the phenomenon unfolded in the dead of night, many residents were also drawn out of their homes by the strange lights overhead.
Nepal Denies Involvement; Air Force Alerted
Inquiries made to the Nepalese security authorities yielded no acknowledgment of any drone operation from their end. “Nepal’s forces have denied conducting any aerial surveillance or testing in the area,” said Deputy Commandant Ojha.
In response, Indian authorities escalated the matter to higher levels. Both the Delhi and Darbhanga Air Force bases have been briefed about the sightings, and a high alert has been issued along this sensitive stretch of the international border. Patrols have been increased, and surveillance efforts intensified.
Security, Surveillance, and Suspicion
The unexplained appearance of such a large number of UAVs has raised eyebrows in security circles. In recent months, drone activity along India’s northern borders has been a growing concern, with fears of smuggling, espionage, or attempts to test border surveillance systems.
While no hostile activity or breach was confirmed, the sheer number and coordinated movement of the aerial objects have prompted speculation of a deliberate probe or reconnaissance.
