Adani Group to Invest in 10GW Renewable Projects

Gautam Adani’s Adani Group has unveiled plans to construct 10 gigawatts (GW) of hydropower capacity in various international locations within the next few years. This initiative is part of the Group’s broader strategy to attain net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

In 2022, Adani Group committed to investing $100 billion over the next decade to enhance its green energy capabilities, including the establishment of the world’s largest solar power park in India. The hydropower projects will play a crucial role in this transition.

Targeted Countries for Investment

The Group is eyeing opportunities in Nepal, Bhutan, Kenya, Tanzania, the Philippines, and Vietnam, drawn by the favorable topography and rising demand for hydropower. While primarily focused on pumped hydro storage projects in India, Adani aims to expand its reach internationally.

Current and Future Projects

In June 2024, Adani signed an agreement to construct a 570 MW hydropower plant in Bhutan’s Chukha Province, with plans for additional projects in the pipeline. Discussions are ongoing with developers in Nepal to facilitate power exports to India.

Broader Business Ventures

Adani is also active in Kenya, Tanzania, the Philippines, and Vietnam, where it is conducting feasibility studies across various sectors, including infrastructure and logistics. Significant investments are planned in ports and renewable energy projects in these regions.
