AAP MP Raghav Chadha moves Supreme Court challenging suspension from Rajya Sabha
Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against his suspension from the Rajya Sabha. Chadha, who is 34 years old, was suspended during the Monsoon Session following a breach of privileges complaint. The suspension will remain in place until the committee of privileges completes its investigation and submits its report.
Accusations of including names without consent
Five Rajya Sabha MPs, including members of the BJP, AIADMK, and BJD, accused Chadha of including their names in a select committee without their consent. The committee was proposed by Chadha to consider the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
Union minister accuses Chadha of misconduct
Union minister Piyush Goyal accused Chadha of “gross impropriety and misconduct.” Goyal claimed that Chadha did not follow the ethical standards expected of a member of the Rajya Sabha. He stated that Chadha included the names of the five MPs in the select committee without their consent.
Chadha’s response to suspension
In response to his suspension, Chadha said, “My suspension serves as a stark message from the BJP to today’s youth: If you dare to ask questions, we will crush your voice.” He claimed that he was suspended for asking tough questions in Parliament regarding the Delhi Services Bill.
