Delhi witnessed one of its most serious security incidents in recent years on November 10, 2025, when a powerful explosion near Gate No. 1 of Lal Qila (Red Fort) Metro Station killed eight people and injured over twenty others, including several in critical condition.
The blast, which occurred around 6:55 PM, tore through a parked car in the crowded Old Delhi area opposite the Red Fort. The explosion ignited three to four nearby vehicles, sending a massive fireball and smoke cloud into the air, visible from several parts of the city.
Immediate Chaos and Rescue Efforts
The busy Chandni Chowk–Red Fort area, filled with commuters and vendors, was plunged into panic. Witnesses described the explosion as a “thunderous blast” that shattered windows and hurled debris across the street. Locals rushed to rescue the injured even before emergency teams arrived.
Within minutes, seven fire tenders and multiple ambulances, along with Delhi Police Special Cell teams, reached the site. The fire was brought under control by 7:30 PM, but by then several victims had succumbed to their injuries. Most of the deceased were bystanders and passersby.
NSG Joins Investigation, Forensic Teams at Work
In a strong security response, the National Security Guard (NSG) — India’s elite counter-terror and bomb disposal force — has been deployed in Delhi.
NSG commandos and forensic experts arrived at the site late in the evening to collect explosive samples, examine blast residues, and sweep the area for any secondary devices.

The deployment of NSG signals that authorities suspect the use of high-intensity explosives or a deliberate terror act. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police Special Cell are coordinating closely with the NSG to reconstruct the blast sequence.
Officials said the blast pattern and damage radius suggest the presence of an improvised explosive device (IED) rather than a mechanical fault. Links to a recent major seizure of 3,000 kg of explosive material in the NCR region are being actively examined.
Capital Under Tight Security
Following the explosion, Delhi has been placed on high alert. Police have sealed the entire Red Fort zone, diverted traffic, and intensified vehicle checks at major intersections and border points. Additional forces have been stationed at metro stations, markets, and religious places across the city.
All hospitals have been instructed to remain on standby. The critically injured are being treated at LNJP Hospital, where doctors confirmed several patients are under intensive care.
Senior officials, including top brass from the Ministry of Home Affairs, were briefed late night. Home Minister Amit Shah has sought a detailed report on the incident.
