Uidai Announces New Rules For Aadhaar Updates: Fees Increase And Mandatory Updates For 10-Year-Old Cards Starting October 1, 2025

What’s inside:

This article explains the new rules for updating Aadhaar cards, including fees and mandatory updates starting from October 2025.

If you need to update your Aadhaar card, there are important changes coming soon. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will introduce new rules from October 1, 2025. These changes will affect how you update your name, address, or photo on the card.

Starting October 1, you will have to pay Rs 75 for updating basic information like your name or address. If you want to change biometric details such as your photo or fingerprints, the fee will be Rs 125. The same fees will apply for updating children’s biometric information. However, getting a new Aadhaar card will still be free.

From October 2025, if your Aadhaar card is 10 years old or more, you must update it. If you haven’t done this in the last decade, you will need to submit documents and pay the required fee. This could be a financial burden for people living in rural areas or small towns.

There are some positive changes too. Children aged 5 to 7 years and teenagers aged 15 to 17 years will no longer have to pay for biometric updates. This fee was previously Rs 50. However, updates are still mandatory, and failure to do them on time may lead to invalid Aadhaar cards.

When it comes to your Aadhaar card, changes include not displaying the father’s or husband’s name starting from August 15, 2025, for those aged 18 or older. Additionally, only the birth year will be shown on the card. From January 2025, only specific documents like bank statements or utility bills can be used to update your address. All updates will be done online through the UIDAI website or the MAADHAAR app.

Summary:

  • New Aadhaar update rules start from October 1, 2025.

  • Rs 75 fee for name/address changes; Rs 125 for biometric updates.

  • Aadhaar cards over 10 years old must be updated with documents.

  • Children aged 5-7 years and 15-17 years now have free biometric updates.

  • Only specific documents will be accepted for address changes from January 2025.
