In response to the record-breaking heatwave sweeping across Uttar Pradesh, the state government has extended summer vacations for school students until June 30. Originally scheduled to end on June 15, this precautionary measure aims to safeguard the health of young students from the adverse effects of intense heat and heatstroke.
The directive applies exclusively to students of both government and private schools up to class eight. All these schools will remain closed until the end of June, while teachers, administrative staff, and non-teaching personnel will be required to attend school starting June 16 to complete necessary administrative and preparatory work for the upcoming academic session.

Clear instructions given to district education officers to enforce the extended holiday schedule
On Friday, Surendra Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of the Basic Education Council, issued a formal order directing all district education officers to implement the extension of the summer break. The order highlighted the health risks posed to children by the prevailing weather conditions, which have seen temperatures soar beyond 45 degrees Celsius in many districts.
Private Schools Granted Flexibility While Government Schools Must Comply

While the extension is mandatory for all government-run schools, recognized private schools have been given the autonomy to decide whether to follow the council’s directive or adapt their holiday schedule according to local circumstances.
Teachers and Staff Responsibilities Remain Intact During Student Holidays
Educators and support staff expected to maintain regular attendance for administrative tasks
The order also mandates the presence of Shiksha Mitras, supervisors, and other non-teaching staff from June 16 onward to carry out essential duties, including reporting, record maintenance, and preparation for the new academic session.
