In a major employment drive, Delhi Police is set to recruit 8,000 new personnel for various ranks ranging from constable to sub-inspector. The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has been tasked with conducting the recruitment process, with advertisements expected to begin from June and continue through September 2025.
Officials confirmed that training for the selected candidates will begin next year, with an aim to have the new personnel deployed by early 2027. The recruitment comes in response to increasing crime and policing demands in Delhi’s expanding urban sprawl.
Only 25,000 Police for 185 Stations: Manpower Crisis Demands Urgent Expansion
New hires crucial as rising crime stretches thin the existing force in Delhi
Currently, only 20,000 to 25,000 police personnel are actively deployed across 185 police stations in Delhi. The sanctioned strength falls far short of the capital’s growing needs. Officials admit that increasing the workforce is essential to effectively control crime in sensitive and under-policed areas.
As part of the plan, Delhi Police will independently recruit 149 personnel for special posts including:
-
Bandmen (54 posts)
-
Dog handlers (44 posts)
-
Electrical staff (14 posts)
-
Mounted patrol (37 posts)
