Nat Zoo Delhi Delhi Got Another Vantara. Full Ac Wildlife Zoo. National Zoological Park Going To Be Transformed.

The Delhi Zoo — officially the National Zoological Park — may soon witness a major transformation, with plans underway to hand over its operations to private entities or societies for better management and redevelopment. The revamped zoo is being envisioned on the lines of ‘Vantara’, the world-class wildlife conservation project located in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

New Ownership and Management Plan Underway

According to sources in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Prime Minister’s Office, discussions are in advanced stages to involve a reputed private group in managing the zoo. The aim is to introduce global-level facilities and infrastructure. The plan includes air-conditioned medical units, modern rehabilitation centers, and state-of-the-art enclosures.

What is Vantara?

Vantara is a wildlife conservation project set up by Anant Ambani under Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation. Spread over 3,000 acres, the facility in Jamnagar houses hundreds of rescued and injured wild animals. The model focuses on scientific rehabilitation and naturalistic habitats and is now being looked upon as an inspiration for modern zoos in India.

Focus on Animal Comfort, Natural Habitats and Rescue Care

Officials confirmed that international experts are already working on the master plan for Delhi Zoo’s redesign. The emphasis will be on providing animals with enriched, semi-natural habitats that mimic their wild surroundings. Modern veterinary and rescue infrastructure will also be part of the project.

Climate-Adaptive Enclosures to Be Built

Given Delhi’s extreme climate, certain species cannot be housed in open-air enclosures. Plans are being made to develop climate-controlled underground enclosures, especially for species such as penguins or those requiring cooler environments. Viewing tunnels, underwater exhibits, and even themed bird aviaries are being considered.

Return of the Rare and Vanishing Species

Another major highlight of the plan is the reintroduction of nearly extinct species. Time-sensitive breeding programs will be launched in association with global zoological institutions. Additionally, exotic monkey species not currently present in India will also be introduced.
