A trial run for a signal-free route from Azadpur Market to the Delhi Vidhan Sabha has officially begun. The initiative aims to reduce travel time and traffic congestion by eliminating traffic signals along the stretch.
As part of the plan, barricades have been removed at the Kingsway Camp and Haqikat Nagar (near Mukherjee Nagar Chowk). Additionally, four new U-turn points have been created in the area to allow smoother vehicle movement without stoppages.
Travel Time Reduced by 10–25 Minutes
According to early estimates, this change is expected to reduce travel time by 10 to 25 minutes for commuters traveling from Kingsway Camp to the Anti-Corruption Branch Office, a distance of approximately 9 km. Previously, due to signals and congestion, drivers often faced delays and interruptions.
Long-Pending Demand Now Addressed
The demand for uninterrupted travel along this route had been long pending. It was raised by Atul Ranjit, National General Secretary of the Gurukripa Hanuman Society of India, who submitted a proposal to the Delhi Traffic Police.
Following this, Special Commissioner Kanwar Jung Bahadur conducted a feasibility study and approved the trial.
Pilot Implementation and Observations
The Delhi Traffic Police has now implemented the trial, installing U-turns and sealing off certain intersections. The move is being monitored to gauge effectiveness and public response.
Additionally, the red light at Lal Bagh Chowk has also been deactivated to further streamline vehicular movement.
