In a concerning development, two residents of Gurugram have tested positive for COVID-19, marking the city’s first confirmed cases in nearly two and a half years. Health officials confirmed the infections on Wednesday following routine medical tests.
The two individuals—a 31-year-old woman from Sector 52 and a 62-year-old elderly man from Sector 70—are currently under home isolation and receiving treatment.
No Further Spread Detected in Close Contacts
According to the Health Department, there is no evidence of the virus spreading to other family members or close contacts. All other household members have tested negative and are reported to be in good health. The elderly man has no recent travel history, while the woman had visited Mumbai with her husband prior to testing positive.
Dr. J.P. Rajliwal, Deputy Civil Surgeon, has urged residents not to panic but to remain cautious and follow health guidelines. “The situation is under control, and we are closely monitoring both patients,” he said.
Sample Sent for Genome Sequencing in Faridabad
Meanwhile, in Faridabad, health authorities have swung into action following a positive case in the district. The infected 28-year-old male resident of Sehatpur had his sample sent to Safdarjung Hospital for genome sequencing to determine the variant of the virus. Officials stated that appropriate action will be taken based on the test results.
Dr. Rajliwal emphasized the importance of vigilance and said both cases are being thoroughly investigated. Officials are awaiting the genome sequencing results to determine whether a new or known variant is responsible.
