After a weather-related incident halted operations, repair work is underway at the New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat Station, where tin sheets from the station shed were torn off during Saturday’s thunderstorm. As per NCRTC officials, a safety trial run of the Namo Bharat train will be conducted on Monday, with regular services resuming from 6 AM on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when strong winds and rain dislodged multiple tin sheets from the shed, located 20 meters above ground, sending them flying like paper onto the roadside along the canal. The structural components couldn’t withstand the high wind pressure, prompting an immediate suspension of train operations at the station. Public notices were posted at all access points, and security guards were seen informing arriving passengers about the suspension.

Commuters Caught Unaware, Diverted to Anand Vihar

Despite the notices, many passengers arrived at the station on Sunday, unaware of the disruption. They had to reroute via auto or bus towards Anand Vihar to catch alternative transport to Meerut. Security personnel stationed at the gates were seen guiding and informing commuters.

Shed Repairs Partially Complete, Work Still Ongoing

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) carried out partial repairs on Sunday, but large sections of the damaged shed still remain under restoration. Officials assured that the work will be completed quickly and the station will be safe for operation.

Structural Concerns Under Review

The New Ashok Nagar station was opened for Namo Bharat services to Meerut on January 5, although final construction work remains ongoing. A 90-meter foot overbridge is also under construction to connect the station with the New Ashok Nagar Metro Station.

The station was built by Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, and NCRTC officials are currently investigating why the shed could not withstand wind pressure. Measures are being devised to prevent recurrence of such incidents, according to sources.
