Delhi was jolted on Saturday afternoon as winds gusting up to 74 km/h swept across the city, accompanied by sudden rain and dust storms. The violent weather caused tin roofs to fly off in several areas and trees to be uprooted, creating panic and chaos.
☀️ From Heatwave to Storm in Hours
The day began with scorching sunshine and hot winds. But around 2 PM, the skies suddenly turned cloudy. This was followed by a dust storm, then strong winds and light rain.

Mayur Vihar received the highest rainfall: 12.5 mm

Ridge Area recorded 7.8 mm
The storm brought some relief from the intense summer heat.
⚠️ Second Major Storm This Season
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this was the second high-wind storm of the season. The last one, on May 2, recorded winds of 80 km/h at Safdarjung, along with widespread rainfall across Delhi.

🚗 Vehicles Trapped, Narrow Escapes

A tree fell on a car near the Crime Branch wall; two people inside narrowly escaped.

Sudden rain caught bikers and auto drivers off guard. Many took shelter under shop sheds, but still got drenched.

🏗️ Namo Bharat Station Roof Damaged
The roof of the Namo Bharat train station at New Ashok Nagar was blown away by the storm. The tin sheds on the roof and stairs collapsed, though no injuries were reported.
Notably, the station began operations only four months ago, raising concerns about construction quality.
🚆 Train Services Suspended from New Ashok Nagar
Due to the damage, RRTS has suspended Namo Bharat operations from New Ashok Nagar until further notice. The train will now operate between Meerut South and Anand Vihar only.
