The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) is taking a big step towards making India safer on the roads. Executive Director Prashant K.K. Banerjee announced the launch of the ‘SIAM-KVS Road Safety Online Education Program.’ This program is part of India’s vision to develop by the year 2047.
Road Safety: A Major Challenge 🚧
Banerjee pointed out that road safety is a significant issue affecting the country’s growth. He emphasized that a general change is essential to improve safety on our roads. During a special event at Kendriya Vidyalaya 2 in New Delhi, a new learning module called ‘Safe Journey’ was unveiled. This event was attended by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Teaching Kids About Safety 🧒
Banerjee shared that the main goal is to raise awareness about road safety among children from a young age. The program includes modules on pedestrian safety, the importance of wearing helmets, and the basics of seat belts. These are simple yet vital tools that can greatly enhance safety.
Interactive Learning Experience 📚
The course is designed to be engaging and lasts for 40 minutes. It uses fun characters like turtles and kangaroos to explain safety concepts. For example, the turtle’s hard shell represents a helmet, while the safety belt is compared to a kangaroo’s pouch. This creative approach aims to make learning about road safety enjoyable for kids.
Future Expansion of the Program 🌍
This pilot project will first be implemented in Kendriya Vidyalayas. If successful, it will be extended to Navodaya Vidyalayas and state schools. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized the importance of teaching children social responsibility and awareness to tackle road safety issues effectively.
