Renault India has announced the introduction of CNG retrofitment kits for all its models – the Kiger, Triber, and Kwid. Priced at Rs. 79,000 for the Kwid and the Triber, and Rs. 75,000 for the Kiger, the CNG kit is only compatible with the 1.0-litre NA petrol engine and manual transmission option. These cars will come with a three-year warranty and will be fitted at company-authorised locations.
Initial Launch in Five States
The CNG retrofitment cars will be made available in a phased manner, with sales starting in five key states – Haryana, UP, Delhi, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. These states contribute to 65 per cent of the market and will eventually cover 100 per cent in the coming months.
Renault’s Strategic Move
Renault’s decision to offer CNG retrofitment kits comes after the company exited the diesel market post-BS6 implementation, making it a petrol-only manufacturer. With the growing demand for CNG vehicles in the market, Renault saw this as an opportunity to cater to a wider audience and strengthen its position in India.
Venkatram M.’s Statement
Venkatram M., Managing Director and Country CEO of Renault India, expressed the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. He stated, “The introduction of the Govt. approved CNG retrofitment kit across all models is a testament to our dedication to providing eco-friendly and smart solutions for our customers. We believe this initiative will make Renault cars even more accessible and practical, solidifying our position in India.”
