Exciting News for Train Travelers!
This year, train passengers in India can look forward to some fantastic gifts that will make their journeys more comfortable. The Indian Railways is set to introduce sleeper trains for the first time in the country, and it’s not just one or two, but a total of ten sleeper Vande Bharat trains will start running by December this year.
What to Expect?
The Railway Ministry has shared that after successful tests of the prototype sleeper Vande Bharat train, production of these trains will begin. By the end of 2025, nine additional sleeper train sets are expected to be ready, providing a more convenient option for long-distance travelers.
Successful Testing
The first 16-coach Vande Bharat sleeper train passed its trial successfully, covering a distance of 540 kilometers in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad section earlier this year. The Integral Coach Factory in Chennai built this train, which was tested for short distances in the Kota Division. It reached speeds of up to 180 kmph during these trials.
Possible Routes
While the exact routes are still being finalized, the upcoming sleeper Vande Bharat trains may operate on several major routes. These include connections from Delhi to Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Howrah, Ranchi, and Ahmedabad. Exciting times are ahead for train travel!
Future Plans
Indian Railways is also preparing for the future, with plans to produce 50 sleeper Vande Bharat train sets. An order has been placed for 24-coach train sets, expected to be completed within two years. Two major Indian manufacturers will handle the production, with plans for large-scale production starting in 2026-27. This initiative will enhance India’s self-reliance in railway technology.
Stay tuned for more updates as these sleeper trains make their debut!
