Sangam City Tragedy
On Tuesday night, Sangam City witnessed a tragic incident during the Mahakumbh festival. A stampede occurred due to the overwhelming crowd, resulting in 17 confirmed deaths, though reports suggest the actual number may be higher. Many individuals are also injured.

Mela officer Vijay Kiran Anand stated that the stampede was triggered by rumors, leading to chaos among the devotees. More than 50 people sustained serious injuries and have been taken to Central Hospital in Mahakumbh Nagar for treatment.
Ambulances have been arriving continuously to transport the injured to the hospital. The local administration is actively engaged in relief and rescue operations. This unfortunate accident took place near the Sangam coast around 2 AM.
Crowd Control Challenges
Devotees had gathered in large numbers for Mauni Amavasya since Tuesday morning. By afternoon, many had broken through barricades in various areas. The situation escalated when bathing commenced at night, leading to an even larger crowd at the confluence.
As the crowd gathered closely at the Sangam coast, conditions became uncontrollable. The stampede occurred when many individuals fell and were unable to get back up, while others were caught in the rush. The incident was reported near Pillar number 157, prompting an immediate response from the fair control and police control rooms.
Emergency Response
In response to the stampede, the paramilitary force and ambulances were dispatched from different locations to assist the situation. Injured devotees were quickly filled into ambulances for transportation. Some victims were laid on the ground at the central hospital, where workers unfortunately reported some fatalities.
Public Safety Appeal
In the aftermath of the stampede, officials are urging pilgrims not to approach the Sangam area. They are advised to take baths at other ghats and proceed to their destinations. Announcements are being made across the Mahakumbh region, emphasizing the importance of safety in light of the tragic event.
