Power Generation From Mixed Waste In Greater Noida And Noida With New Charcoal Plant Launching Soon.

Electricity Generation from Mixed Waste in Greater Noida and Noida

Electricity will soon be generated from mixed waste collected from homes in Greater Noida and Noida. A green coal plant, known as Torfed Charcoal, is currently being installed in Astauli. This innovative plant will convert waste into green coal, which will then be used to generate electricity. The construction is progressing rapidly, and the plant is expected to be operational by Independence Day, 15th August. This initiative aims to reduce waste and promote environmental conservation.

Joint Project by Noida and Greater Noida Authorities

The Noida and Greater Noida Authorities have come together to tackle the issue of waste disposal, which has been a significant challenge. They have jointly established the green coal plant to manage the waste generated in their respective areas. A 20-acre plot of land in Astauli has been designated for this project, with the Noida Authority covering the cost of the land. The NTPC Electricity Trade Corporation Limited has signed an agreement to set up the plant, and work has commenced.

Waste Disposal Strategy

Officials from the Noida Authority have reported that the plant is on track to be completed within six months. It will handle both wet and dry waste, processing a total of 900 tonnes of garbage daily—600 tonnes from Noida and 300 tonnes from Greater Noida.

Investment and Operations

The total cost for establishing this facility is estimated at Rs 165 crores, with NTPC funding the project while the Noida and Greater Noida Authorities provide the land. The plant will operate for a period of 25 years. Through this facility, NTPC aims to convert waste into green coal and generate electricity, which will help cover operational costs. According to SP Singh, General Manager of Public Health at Noida Authority, the goal is to commence operations within six months, contributing to a cleaner and garbage-free city.
