Gurugram'S Namo Bharat Train Station Plans Include Land Acquisition And Environmental Concerns Over Tree Removal.

The proposed Namo Bharat Train station in Gurugram will be located at IFFCO Chowk and will cover an area of 19 thousand square meters, which is about 4.69 acres. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation Limited (NCRTC) has identified a suitable land plot for this station. The station will be built on the land in Sector-29, situated along the Delhi-Jaipur highway. The entry and exit gates for the station will be constructed on the opposite side of the highway in Sector-17, requiring an additional 6610 square meters, or about 1.63 acres, of land.

To facilitate the construction, NCRTC has requested the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HSVP) to allocate the necessary land. The Namo Bharat train is planned to run from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Dharuhera in Rewari, passing through Gurugram. The Haryana government is expected to provide free land on its side for this project.

During the initial surveys, NCRTC officials discovered vacant land on the left side of the Delhi-Jaipur highway at IFFCO Chowk, though some of it is currently encroached upon by unauthorized constructions such as service stations and dhabas. The station can be built on this land if the encroachments are removed. Following the completion of the survey, NCRTC has reached out to HSVP for land provision.

Train Route and Stations

The Namo Bharat Train will commence from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi, with plans for nine stations to be built in Gurugram and Rewari. These stations will include Cyber City, IFFCO Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Kherki Daula, Manesar, Pachgaon, Bilaspur, and Dharuhera.

Environmental Impact

As part of the construction at IFFCO Chowk, 169 trees will need to be cut down. Out of these, 75 trees are in the way of the station building, while 94 trees will be removed for the entry and exit gates. This has raised concerns among some community members regarding the environmental impact of cutting down trees.

Land Requirements

For the entry and exit gates in front of the petrol pump, 500 square meters of land are needed. This area is close to the non-motorable track constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the IFFCO Chowk intersection. The Namo Bharat Station can be accessed through this track. However, acquiring this land involves coordination with the Air Force, as it is connected to their property.

Alternative Land Options

If necessary, alternative land options exist for the petrol pumps that are located where the entry and exit gates are planned. According to HSVP’s survey, there are four vacant petrol pump sites available in sectors 9, 10, and 37C. Plans are in place to develop a shopping center and a petrol pump near a religious site in Sector-37C.

Depot Land Dispute

NCRTC intends to construct a depot spanning 182 acres in Dharuhera for the Namo Bharat Train. Currently, 74 acres of land has been allocated by HSVP for this purpose, but about 108 acres of the land is embroiled in legal disputes. NCRTC has urged HSVP’s chief administrator, Chandrashekhar Khare, to help resolve these issues.

Interchange Stations

Under the Namo Bharat Train project, five interchange stations will be built. The Cyber City and Hero Honda Chowk stations will connect with the planned Old Gurugram Metro. There are also plans for a new metro route from Bhondsi to the railway station, which will start from Rajiv Chowk, where a bus terminal will be constructed.

Additionally, interchange stations will be established in Kherki Daula and Pachgaon, linked to the proposed metro route from Sector-56 to Pachgaon.
