Introduction to the MG S5
Rajeev Chaba recently introduced the MG S5 at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, showcasing an impressive electric SUV that combines cutting-edge battery technology with a sleek and sustainable design. This all-electric compact SUV is set to replace the MG ZS EV in several global markets, including Europe and Australia. Built on MG’s Modular Scalable Platform, which is also used for the MG4 hatchback, the S5 promises to deliver a modern aesthetic and advanced engineering that could redefine the electric vehicle landscape.
Design and Performance Highlights
The MG S5 boasts a sporty and contemporary design, measuring 4476 mm in length, 1849 mm in width, and 1621 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2730 mm. This compact SUV strikes a balance between agility and practicality, making it ideal for urban environments. The front features sleek headlights and a stylish air intake, while the rear sports distinctive through-type tail lights, giving the vehicle a dynamic look. Performance-wise, the S5 is powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor, generating 125 kW (170 PS) and 250 Nm of torque. It offers two battery options, with ranges of approximately 425 km and 520 km, depending on the battery size.
Interior Comfort and Market Launch
Inside, the MG S5 is designed with spaciousness and modernity in mind. It features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ensuring seamless connectivity and intuitive controls for the driver and passengers. The materials used in the interior emphasize comfort and practicality, enhancing the overall driving experience. The MG S5 was unveiled in China in late 2024, and sales began in November at a starting price of around 103,900 RMB. It is expected to hit European markets in 2025, with details on pricing to be revealed closer to the launch date, and Australian showrooms are anticipating its arrival by mid-2025.
