A New Addition to Delhi’s Green Landscape
A new name is set to join the list of attractions in the capital as ‘Yamuna Vatika’ emerges on the tourism map. Spanning an impressive 450 acres, this expansive garden is being developed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The garden is surrounded by a stunning variety of flower gardens and trees, positioning it to become the largest garden of its kind in Delhi. This project, led by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, is designed to enhance the urban landscape and offer a refreshing escape for city residents and visitors alike.
Revitalizing the Yamuna Floodplain
The initiative aims to beautify the city’s ecosystem by transforming the Yamuna floodplain into Delhi’s first dedicated ‘flower field’. The garden features a three-tier design of flowers, promising to set new standards for urban greenery. As part of this revitalization, around eight thousand indigenous trees—including Gulmohar, Amaltas, and Chinar—along with exotic species like Cherry Blossom saplings, have been planted. Additionally, approximately ten thousand bamboo saplings are being introduced, contributing positively to the local ecology and enhancing the natural environment for visitors to enjoy.
Water Conservation and Future Prospects
Yamuna Vatika will feature four large ponds that are designed to conserve water during floods and act as a water storage system. This initiative by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena reflects a commitment to making Delhi greener and more sustainable. Previous projects like Bansera and the renovated Roshanara Bagh have already shown the positive impact of such green spaces, attracting numerous visitors each day. With its unique offerings, Yamuna Vatika is poised to become a major tourist destination in the future, enriching the city’s natural beauty and providing a peaceful retreat for everyone.
