Preparations are currently in progress to create a signal-free corridor between the Chief Minister’s residence and Kingsway Camp, passing through Mall Road. This initiative aims not only to alleviate congestion along this four-kilometer stretch but also to implement U-turn arrangements.
The route is known for its 11 traffic signals, which often lead to frustrating delays. By removing these signals, officials hope to create a smoother flow of traffic and reduce the time spent in long queues caused by red lights.
Joint Inspection for Better Traffic Management
The Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police for the Northern Range has reached out to the Central Road Research Institute to conduct a joint inspection of the route. This collaboration is seen as a crucial step in identifying effective solutions for the persistent traffic issues faced by commuters traveling from the Rajdhani Loop area to Kingsway Camp, particularly through the Delhi University vicinity. With the presence of important institutions and residential areas along the route, the need for efficient traffic management has become even more pressing.
Advantages of Implementing U-Turns
The proposed changes include not only the removal of existing traffic signals but also the introduction of 14 to 15 U-turns to facilitate smoother vehicle movement. While this might slightly reduce vehicle speeds, the overall impact on traffic congestion is expected to be significant. The shift to a U-turn system could lead to numerous benefits, including saving time, fuel, and money, while also reducing pollution and the likelihood of road accidents. These improvements could contribute to a safer and more efficient travel experience for everyone in the area.
