Delhi Chief Minister Atishi today launched the Delhi Solar Portal (solar.delhi.gov.in), providing a one-stop solution for residents to benefit from the Delhi Solar Policy. The initiative aims to bring zero electricity bills even for those consuming over 400 units of power.
During the launch, CM Atishi emphasized that the portal simplifies the process for anyone wishing to install rooftop solar panels, offering all necessary details and enabling a seamless application process from the comfort of one’s home.
Key Benefits of the Delhi Solar Portal
- Comprehensive Information
Users can access detailed information about the Delhi Solar Policy, benefits of rooftop solar panels, costs involved, empaneled vendors, and the government subsidies available. - Solar Calculator
The portal includes a Solar Calculator that allows residents to estimate energy production based on their rooftop size, the required panel capacity, and the installation cost. - Subsidies and Net Metering
Users can apply for subsidies and net metering directly through the portal, eliminating the need to visit government offices. The subsidy is generation-based, providing financial incentives for every unit of solar power produced.
Achieving Zero Electricity Bills for Over 400 Units
CM Atishi highlighted that Delhi residents already enjoy free electricity for up to 200 units and subsidized rates for up to 400 units. For those consuming over 400 units, the solar policy ensures zero electricity bills through net metering.
- Example: If a household consumes 400 units but produces 300 units via solar panels, they only pay for the remaining 100 units.
- Any excess electricity produced can be sold to the government, turning solar installations into a source of income.
Additionally, for every unit of solar power generated, the government offers ₹3 as an incentive for systems up to 3 kW and ₹2 per unit for systems between 3-10 kW.
Application Process
The Delhi Solar Portal streamlines the application in four simple steps:
- Registration:
Sign up on the portal to apply for net metering, subsidies, and Generation-Based Incentives (GBI). - Processing:
Applications are processed in collaboration with relevant departments. - Installation:
Upon approval, users can hire empaneled vendors to install solar panels. - Incentive Disbursal:
Once the system is operational, GBI is adjusted in electricity bills or directly transferred to bank accounts within seven days.
Government Incentives for Five Years
The Delhi government will provide GBI for five years:
- ₹3/unit for systems up to 3 kW.
- ₹2/unit for systems between 3-10 kW.
Aiming for 25% Solar Energy by 2027
Delhi has already taken a pioneering step by shutting down all thermal power plants to reduce pollution. With the Delhi Solar Policy launched in March 2024, the government aims to meet 25% of the city’s energy needs through solar power by 2027.
- Power companies will procure 3,750 MW solar power through agreements.
- 750 MW of this will come from rooftop solar systems on homes and offices.
