Can Solar Pumps Be Installed Under PM Suryaghar Yojana?

In India, the rising energy costs and inadequate electricity supply significantly challenge farmers’ irrigation efforts. Solar energy presents a viable and cost-effective solution. Farmers can now reduce their reliance on conventional electricity by installing solar panels for submersible pumps, thereby decreasing irrigation expenses. A common inquiry among farmers is whether they can install solar pumps under the PM Suryaghar Yojana.

Government Scheme for Submersible Pumps

PM-KUSUM Scheme

The PM-KUSUM scheme (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha and Utthan Mahabhiyan) offers subsidies for installing solar pumps. It includes two main components: Component B provides 30% Central Financial Assistance (CFA) and a state subsidy for standalone solar pumps up to 7.5 HP. Component C supports grid-connected pump solarization with similar financial assistance.

State Government Schemes

Various states also offer their own subsidies for solar pumps. For instance, Uttar Pradesh provides up to 50% subsidy, while Maharashtra offers up to 40%. States like Rajasthan and Haryana have even higher subsidies, some reaching up to 75%, depending on the pump capacity and farmer category.

Eligibility and Application Process

Farmers must hold ownership or lease rights to agricultural land and have a valid Aadhar card and bank account to qualify for these schemes. Interested farmers should verify their eligibility and gather necessary documents before applying through the relevant government departments.
