Roadways Prepares for Diwali Rush
For the upcoming Diwali celebrations, the Roadways department is stepping up its game by planning to run an additional 305 buses. This initiative is aimed at accommodating the surge of passengers during this festive season. Currently, the team is waiting for final orders from headquarters, while regional managers are busy allocating buses across all nine depots. The majority of these extra buses will be focused on key routes, including Lucknow-Gorakhpur, Delhi, Azamgarh, and Prayagraj, ensuring that they also serve normal district routes alongside the main roads.
Quick Action on Additional Services
The Transport Corporation is expected to issue instructions shortly to all regional and assistant regional managers, confirming the operation of these additional buses from Diwali through to Chhath Puja. In the Lucknow region alone, 917 out of 967 buses are being allocated across the nine depots. The specifics regarding how many buses will operate on various routes will be announced soon. Regional Manager RK Tripathi mentioned that the majority of the additional services will be running from depots such as Charbagh, Kaiserbagh, Alambagh, and Awadh, among others, to ensure maximum coverage during this busy period.
New Buses Coming from Tata Motors
In a significant boost for the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), Tata Motors is set to provide 1,000 state-of-the-art diesel buses that meet BS-6 standards. The order was placed just last week, and Tata will supply the chassis for 150 of these buses in time for Diwali. By December, all buses are expected to be integrated into the Roadways fleet, which will be especially beneficial for devotees heading to the Prayagraj Mahakumbh. According to Tata Motors, this order was secured following a competitive e-bidding process, and the delivery of chassis will follow a phased schedule based on mutually agreed terms.
