The government claims that India will lead the world in 6G deployment. At Asia’s largest tech event, the minister emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants India to be the first country to launch 6G technology.

Speaking at the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) during the India Mobile Congress, Scindia expressed confidence in India’s leadership in 6G. He stated, “India has been a leader in 5G and 4G, and now, India will also lead in 6G. We are following the path shown by Prime Minister Modi, who wants us to be the first to green-light 6G.”

The minister also mentioned that the goal is to make 6G accessible and affordable for everyone in India. Speaking at the International 6G Symposium during the event, Scindia revealed that India aims to secure 10% of global 6G patents through alliances. Amendments in the Telecommunications Act, 2023, have been made to support this vision and position India as a market leader in 6G technology.

Solving Challenges in the Telecom Sector

The Indian government is actively addressing challenges in the telecom sector, particularly the areas causing the most difficulty. The minister acknowledged efforts to resolve these issues in the digital era. During the event, Scindia conducted a video call using Airtel’s satellite communication technology with soldiers posted at remote borders, showcasing advancements in satellite communications.

India is expected to launch satellite communication services soon. The government is also focusing on cybersecurity and overcoming problems related to digital communication. Scindia stressed that the telecom sector in India is growing rapidly, and the country has the potential to lead the world in this domain. Given the government’s efforts, it seems that users of Airtel, BSNL, Jio, and Vodafone-Idea will be among the first to experience 6G technology in the near future.
