In a recent press release, Shwet Malik, the former MP from the Bharatiya Janata Party, took a moment to thank several key figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Railway Ministers Piyush Goyal and Ashwani Vaishnav. He highlighted his long-standing advocacy for the Amritsar-Jammu Bullet Train project, which he first brought up in Parliament back in 2017. By 2018, the project received approval, and after floating the tender in 2020, he announced that work is finally set to begin.
Malik proudly noted that during his time as an MP, he worked hard to push for the development of high-speed rail corridors connecting Amritsar to Delhi and Katra, efforts that are now being realized under the current government.
Benefits of the Amritsar-Delhi Bullet Train
Malik emphasized the significant impact that the Amritsar-Delhi Bullet Rail Project will have on travel times. Once completed, the train will cover the 465-kilometer journey from Amritsar to Delhi in just 1 hour and 40 minutes, allowing residents to complete their work in Delhi and return home to Amritsar the same night.
The train will stop at key locations along its route, including Kaithal, Jind, Ambala, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar. With a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour and an operational speed of 320 kilometers per hour, the service will accommodate up to 750 passengers, significantly easing travel between these major cities.
Future Developments and Upgrades
Looking ahead, Shwet Malik also mentioned plans for a high-speed train connecting Amritsar to Katra, the holy city in Jammu. This train will cover a distance of 190 kilometers in just one hour, passing through Batala, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Samba, and Jammu. The infrastructure for both train routes will include elevated tracks, underground sections, and ground-level tracks, with speeds reaching up to 320 kilometers per hour and an average speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
Additionally, Malik shared his commitment to upgrading Amritsar Railway Station into a world-class facility with a substantial investment of Rs 500 crore, which will enhance passenger amenities significantly. With contributions from various leaders and agencies, including Rs 300 crore from NITI Aayog for the Amritsar-Firozepur rail link, the area is set for transformative developments in rail travel.
