In response to the continuous rainfall in Delhi, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has intensified its campaign against mosquito-borne diseases. As part of the drive, the NDMC has been conducting inspections in various areas to identify locations where mosquito larvae have been found.
As of now, 1,679 notices have been issued to individuals for failing to maintain hygiene and allowing the breeding of mosquitoes on their premises. Among these, 104 people have been fined for violating sanitation norms and facilitating the breeding of mosquitoes, which can lead to diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya.
The NDMC is focused on preventing the spread of mosquito-borne diseases, which tend to rise during periods of heavy rainfall due to stagnant water, a common breeding ground for mosquitoes.
The authorities have urged residents to keep their surroundings clean, ensure there is no stagnant water, and cooperate with health officials to reduce the risk of outbreaks.
Fines for violation
The fines imposed by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) for mosquito larvae breeding on premises can vary depending on the severity of the violation and the area’s guidelines. Typically, these fines range from ₹500 to ₹2,000. In cases where repeated violations are found or if the situation poses a high health risk, the fines could be increased further.
