Delhi is all set to launch a premium bus service, similar to cab services, aimed at offering a luxury and comfortable travel experience to passengers. A fleet of premium buses, managed by a private company, has already arrived in the capital.
On Wednesday, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot visited the Rajghat Depot to inspect these buses and review their features and safety arrangements. During the inspection, he personally tested the buses and discussed their key features and safety protocols with company officials. The buses are expected to start operations within the next 10-12 days.
A Vision for Comfortable and Luxurious Travel
The transport minister shared that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s vision was to introduce premium bus services in Delhi, operated by private companies, to provide citizens with a luxurious travel option. The Premium Bus Scheme was launched a few months ago under this initiative, and Uber qualified to operate this service by meeting all the required conditions.
Key Features of the Premium Buses
- The premium buses will be operated by Uber.
- They are equipped with panic buttons, CCTV cameras, and other essential safety features.
- These buses will run on CNG fuel, and no buses older than three years will be included in the service.
- The buses will have a range of 240 kilometers per charge, ensuring long-distance travel without frequent refueling.
Fare, Routes, and Timings
The fare, routes, and timings for the premium bus service are yet to be decided. The transport minister stated that the private company has been instructed to finalize these details soon. The service is expected to cater primarily to those who travel long distances to work in their private vehicles, providing them with a more comfortable and convenient alternative.
