The Supreme Court has given a directive to the governments of Haryana and Punjab to explore the possibilities of partially opening the Shambhu Border, which has been closed due to farmers’ protests. This directive came on Monday, aiming to relieve the blockade and make way for essential movement.

👮‍♂️ Police Meeting Within a Week
The top court has instructed the Police Directors General of both states, along with police officers from the Ambala and Patiala districts adjoining the Shambhu Border, to hold a meeting within a week. This meeting is crucial for devising a plan to partially open the highway at the border.

👩‍🦳👩‍🏫 Special Considerations
Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan’s bench emphasized the importance of reopening the highway, especially for senior citizens, women, students, local residents, ambulances, and essential services. The meeting should focus on creating a framework to facilitate this partial opening.

📅 Punjab Court’s Directive
The Punjab Court has also given a similar directive, calling for a meeting within a week to discuss the partial reopening of the highway. The discussions will focus on reducing the blockade and ensuring smoother daily commutes.

🚜 Dialogue with Farmers
The court has advised the government to engage with the farmers, who have been stationed at the Shambhu Border since February 13, to persuade them to remove their tractors from the highway. This step is crucial for easing the traffic flow.

🚗 Highways are Not Parking Lots
In a notable comment, the court declared that highways are not meant for parking. This statement came during the hearing when Punjab’s Advocate General, Guruminder Singh, requested some directives to lessen the blockade for daily commuters. Justice Surya Kant responded by asking why the government doesn’t persuade the farmers to make way for the vehicles.
