Patients visiting AIIMS New Delhi for treatment will soon benefit from a significant new service. Air-conditioned electric buses will be introduced to transport patients and their families from metro stations and bus stops directly to various departments within AIIMS. This initiative aims to alleviate the strain of traveling to and within AIIMS for patients and their relatives.
20-Seater Buses for Last Mile Connectivity
AIIMS Director Dr. M. Srinivas stated that community feedback revealed many patients face difficulties reaching AIIMS from nearby metro stations or bus stops. To address this, AIIMS will introduce 20-seater electric buses to provide last-mile connectivity, ensuring patients can easily access the hospital facilities without long walks or expensive auto-rickshaw rides.
Comfortable and Accessible Buses
Professor Reema Dada, in charge of the AIIMS media cell, mentioned that these buses will offer low-cost, air-conditioned travel from metro stations and bus stops directly to AIIMS. The buses will be energy-efficient, low-floor, and wheelchair-accessible, making them convenient for all patients.
Frequent and Monitored Service
The electric buses will operate every 10 minutes during peak hours from 7 AM to 7 PM. They will be equipped with call buttons, CCTV cameras, GPS tracking, and live monitoring to ensure safety and convenience. Additionally, a patient app will be available for real-time bus tracking and service feedback. Patients can pay the bus fare using AIIMS smart cards or UPI.
Key Routes and Stops
These electric buses will connect AIIMS to nearby metro stations such as Lajpat Nagar, South Extension, and Green Park, as well as nearby bus stops like Kidwai Nagar, Gautam Nagar, and Bhikaji Cama Place.
