Big changes are coming for commuters in the city. The Bhainsali Bus Stand, notorious for causing traffic jams, will be shifted out of the city. In its place, two new bus terminals will be constructed.
One terminal will be located near the Meerut South Station of the Namo Bharat Train on Delhi Road, providing bus services to Noida. The second terminal, along with a bus maintenance depot, will be set up near the Modipuram Station on the Delhi-Dehradun Highway.
Tender Issued by NCRTC
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has invited tenders for the construction of these new bus terminals and a depot.
The project, which includes structural design, architecture, mechanical, electrical, plumbing work, and fire safety, aims to be completed within two years. Bids can be submitted from July 23, with the last date being August 8. The bids will be opened on August 9.

NCRTC is also gearing up to install solar panels at RRTS corridor stations, aiming for a total production of 4.9 MW of electricity. This initiative is part of NCRTC’s plan to meet 70% of its total electricity needs through solar power. Tenders have been invited for this project as well.

Revamp of Sohrab Gate Bus Stand
PPP Model Development
The Sohrab Gate Bus Stand on Garh Road is set for a major facelift, modeled after the Alambagh Bus Stand in Lucknow. The headquarters has selected a firm under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to develop the bus stand, a process that has been in the works for the past five to six years.
Sandeep Nayak, the Regional Manager, revealed that Delhi-based ART Construction Company will handle the project, with a one-month timeline to finalize the design and layout.
Commercial Activities on Upper Floors
The Sohrab Gate Bus Stand will be developed over an area of 11,583 square meters at a cost of ₹80 crore. The ground floor will include bus parking, waiting areas for passengers, inquiry offices, food stalls, and restrooms.
A large LCD screen will be installed for passenger information. The construction company will have the right to use the first and second floors for commercial activities, including showrooms, food plazas, and cinemas.
Traffic Decongestion
Improved Traffic Management
The new design will ensure that buses enter and exit the terminal without causing road blockages, which will help alleviate the frequent traffic jams on Garh Road. The Sohrab Gate Bus Stand, currently operating 310 buses to cities like Lucknow, Agra, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Aligarh, will see significant improvements in traffic flow and passenger amenities.
