In a significant move to ensure the development of the Vasudev Ghat area and free the Yamuna floodplains from encroachments, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has initiated a demolition drive.
Following court orders, the DDA carried out the demolition near Nigam Bodh Ghat, a part of the Vasudev Ghat project, on Saturday. The operation led to the removal of two permanent structures, two semi-permanent structures, and one religious structure.
Details of the Demolition Drive
According to PTI reports, on Saturday, the DDA demolished five illegal constructions in the Yamuna floodplains as part of the effort to clear encroachments and develop the Vasudev Ghat area.
Among the demolished structures was a religious structure. DDA officials have stated that all efforts are being made to restore the Yamuna floodplains in compliance with court orders.
Court-Ordered Action
In a statement issued by the DDA, it was confirmed that the anti-encroachment drive near Nigam Bodh Ghat was conducted in compliance with the Delhi High Court’s decision on Friday.
During this operation, two permanent structures, two semi-permanent structures, and one religious structure (temple) were removed.
A similar operation was carried out by the DDA on the previous Tuesday in the Yamuna floodplain area near the ISBT bridge.
Support and Compliance
The demolition drive was conducted with the assistance of Delhi Police personnel to ensure the removal of illegal encroachments. The presence of police forces ensured that the operation proceeded smoothly and in accordance with approved guidelines.
The DDA is committed to executing these drives based on the directions of the Delhi High Court, which includes efforts towards ecological restoration of the Yamuna floodplains.
