The Delhi-Meerut Rapid Rail Corridor is set to extend its service to Meerut South (Partapur Tiraaha) soon. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation’s (NCRTC) newly appointed Managing Director (MD), Kuldeep Narayan, conducted an inspection on Saturday and found the Meerut South station ready for operation. Now, the corridor awaits final clearance from the Safety Commissioner.

 

Key Updates:

  • Launch Awaiting Final Approval:
    • If no issues arise due to the ongoing code of conduct, services may start this month. Otherwise, operations will begin by June 4.
    • This delay is attributed to the ongoing election process in Delhi.

 

  • Leadership Transition and Inspection:
    • In April, Vinay Kumar Singh resigned as NCRTC’s MD. Kuldeep Narayan, Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, took over the charge.
    • Following his appointment, Narayan inspected the 82-kilometer corridor between Delhi and Meerut on Saturday.

 

    • He began with the under-construction segment between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, then traveled to the Sahibabad-Modinagar North section via the Duhai Depot.
    • He evaluated Meerut South station’s readiness with his team and found the preparations complete for operations.

 

  • Project Overview:
    • Narayan reviewed the progress at Shatabdi Nagar and Modipuram stations.
    • He emphasized timely project completion while adhering to safety protocols after the Roshanpur-Doorli incident.

 

  • Current Operations:
    • NCRTC currently operates the Namo Bharat train on a 34-kilometer stretch between Sahibabad and Modinagar North, including eight stations.
    • Construction on the remaining sections continues at a fast pace.
    • The entire 82-kilometer corridor from Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan to Modi Puram in Meerut is expected to be operational by June 2025.
