In a recent order issued by the Delhi government, the period between April and June has been declared as dry days in the National Capital Territory (NCT). These dry days coincide with religious festivals and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, aiming to maintain sobriety and lawfulness during these significant events.
According to the Excise Department of the Delhi government, dry days will be observed in Delhi on the following dates:
- 11th April: Eid-ul-Fitr
- 17th April: Ram Navami
- 21st April: Mahavir Jayanti
- 23rd May: Buddha Purnima
- 17th June: Bakrid (Eid-ul-Adha)
During these periods, liquor shops will remain closed to adhere to the dry day regulations.
Dry Days During Lok Sabha Elections:
Additionally, considering the Lok Sabha elections, dry days have been enforced in parts of Uttar Pradesh bordering Delhi. From 24th April, 6 PM, to 26th April, 6 PM, liquor shops within 100 meters of the Delhi-UP border in Baghpat, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddha Nagar districts will remain closed.
Dry Days During Election Period in Delhi:
- Before Polling: From 6 PM on 23rd May to 6 PM on 25th May, liquor sale will be prohibited, including a 48-hour period surrounding the conclusion of voting.
- Election Result Day: A full-day dry day has been announced for 4th June, 2024, in anticipation of the Lok Sabha election results.
These measures are aimed at maintaining law and order and ensuring a peaceful and fair electoral process in Delhi and its neighboring regions.
