The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has achieved a significant milestone in Ashok Vihar’s Jailerwala Bagh, under its ambitious ‘Jahan Jhuggi Wahi Makaan’ (Where there is a slum, there will be a house) scheme. This initiative represents a crucial step towards providing affordable housing and uplifting the living standards of many families in North Delhi.

Unprecedented Success

Out of 1675 Economically Weaker Section (EWS) flats, 1396 have been successfully allotted, bringing new hope to numerous families. This accomplishment not only demonstrates DDA’s commitment to social welfare but also highlights the scheme’s effectiveness in addressing urban housing challenges.

Affordable and Accessible Housing

The construction cost for each flat is pegged at 25 lakh rupees, yet the beneficiaries are charged a nominal amount of just 1.41 lakh rupees. This substantial subsidy ensures that quality housing becomes accessible to the economically weaker sections, embodying the scheme’s inclusive ethos.

These flats are equipped with modern amenities, including a sewage treatment system and clean drinking water, ensuring a comfortable and sustainable living environment.

The Allocation Process

The flats were allocated through a draw, benefiting the slum dwellers of Jailerwala Bagh and the surrounding areas, in accordance with the directives from the Lieutenant Governor.

This transparent and fair process underscores the government’s dedication to equitable urban development.

Comprehensive Facilities

Each flat, spanning 340 square feet, includes a bedroom, living room, kitchen, separate toilet and bathroom, and a balcony, designed to cater to all the essential needs of a family.

The project boasts a total residential built-up area of approximately 67,000 square meters, with an additional 1,000 square meters dedicated to community facilities. A well-planned parking arrangement can accommodate 337 vehicles, reflecting the project’s holistic approach to urban planning.

The remaining flats are expected to be allocated soon, furthering the mission of transforming urban slum areas into well-facilitated residential spaces. This initiative is a testament to DDA’s resolve in creating a more inclusive and habitable urban landscape, paving the way for a brighter future for many underprivileged families in Delhi.
