The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has taken a significant step towards digital education by approving the introduction of tablet-based learning in its schools. This initiative, set to be implemented in the next academic session, positions NDMC as the first municipal body in Delhi to adopt such a modern approach to education.

Key Features of the NDMC Tablet-Based Education Initiative

  • Exclusive Educational Content on Tablets: The tablets provided by NDMC will be dedicated solely to educational purposes. They will contain relevant study material and videos as per the teacher’s command. NDMC has prepared individual videos for each chapter to facilitate this new mode of learning.

  • Availability of Study Material: The educational content, including readable materials, will be made available through the Palika Education website of NDMC.

  • Successful Pilot Project: NDMC member Kuljeet Chahal, along with Vishakha Sailani, announced in a joint press conference with Satish Upadhyay that as a pilot project, NDMC had already distributed 811 tablets in four schools. Following the success of this trial, NDMC plans to distribute 8138 tablets to students from classes 9 to 12 in the academic year 2024-25.

  • Budget Allocation: NDMC will bear the cost of approximately INR 24.72 crores for this project. The tablets will be purchased through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal.
  • Provision for Teachers: In addition to students, 628 tablets will be distributed to teachers, ensuring that educators are equipped with the necessary digital tools to facilitate this new mode of learning.

  • First of Its Kind in Delhi NCR: NDMC will become the first municipal body in the Delhi NCR region to implement tablet-based learning for students from classes 9 to 12.
  • Upgradation of Computer Labs: Chahal also mentioned that NDMC has decided to upgrade the computer labs in 29 Navyug schools. This upgrade will include updating the software to support the new digital learning environment.

This initiative by NDMC marks a significant transition towards integrating technology in education. By providing tablets to students and teachers, NDMC is not only enhancing the learning experience but also preparing its students for a digitally driven future. The introduction of tablet-based learning reflects NDMC’s commitment to modernizing education and making it more accessible and engaging for students.
