The Indian Railways is transforming the Sabzi Mandi Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The redevelopment, scheduled for completion by March, involves an investment of approximately 27 crores. This project aims to enhance the station’s infrastructure, improve passenger flow, and resolve parking issues.
Background of the Scheme
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme on August 6 last year. Sabzi Mandi Railway Station is one of the stations included in this massive redevelopment project. The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM)’s Executive Advisor, Prem Shankar Jha, notes that yard remodeling is also a part of this overhaul.
Current Developments
- Work is underway to repair the platform surfaces.
- A washable apron (concrete under the tracks) has been prepared to improve cleanliness.
- Materials for constructing a new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) have been acquired, with construction set to begin soon.
- Alternative routes have been arranged to prevent inconvenience to passengers due to excavation work in the station premises.
Upcoming Enhancements at the Station
- Development of the main building and lighting system.
- Cafeteria establishment.
- One Station-One Product (OSOP) stall.
- Development of waiting rooms, toilets, and other passenger amenities.
- Development of the station premises and parking area.
- Separate entry and exit gates for smooth passenger movement.
- Improvements and additional shelters on platform surfaces.
- Facilities for differently-abled passengers, including ramps, toilets, water supply, and signage at the entrance.
- Decorative pillars (6 meters) in the station premises.
- Modern signage boards and uniform display boards at entrances/exits.
- Executive/Reserved Lounge/VIP rooms.
- Enhanced passenger announcement system.
- Construction of a new 12-meter-wide FOB.
- Provision of six escalators and four lifts.
