Residents of various areas in North Delhi faced a significant water shortage on a Monday. The root cause was attributed to maintenance work on the water line, as confirmed by a statement released by the Delhi Jal Board.
Key Highlights of the Water Crisis
- Maintenance Work: The water shortage was a direct result of the Delhi Jal Board conducting maintenance work on the water line.
- Areas Affected: Key areas impacted by the shortage included Kamla Nagar, Roop Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, New Chandrawal Village, Shakti Nagar, some parts of Sindhora Kalan, certain areas of Sanjay Nagar, and Malka Ganj.
- DMRC’s Role: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was reported to be interconnecting a 700 mm diameter water line near the Ghantaghar in Shaktinagar, which caused disruptions in water supply.
- 12-Hour Shutdown: For the interconnection work, a 12-hour shutdown was necessary. This led to no water supply from 9 AM to 9 PM on the scheduled day.
- Advisory to Residents: Delhi Jal Board advised residents to store adequate water in advance. Water tankers were also made available upon request to mitigate the impact.
Further Disruptions Anticipated
- Scheduled Shutdown on 23rd January: Due to DMRC’s work on the water line interconnection near Ghantaghar and Shakti Nagar, another 12-hour shutdown is expected to affect the water supply on the 23rd of January, from 9 AM to 9 PM.
- Advisory for Residents: Residents are advised to store sufficient water. Areas expected to be affected include Kamla Nagar, Roop Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, New Chandrawal Village, Shakti Nagar, partial areas of Sindhora Kalan, Sanjay Nagar, and Malka Ganj.
Previous Incidents
Earlier Water Supply Issues: Prior to this incident, areas had experienced water shortages due to maintenance work at the Sonia Vihar Treatment Plant. On the 18th and 19th of January, an advisory was issued to residents to store water as supply was expected to be disrupted for 16 hours.
Areas Affected: The previous disruption impacted Kailash Nagar, Jal Vihar, Lajpat Nagar, Moolchand Hospital, Greater Kailash, Okhla, Sabzi Mandi, Amar Colony, Dakshin Puri, Panchsheel Park, Shyam Nagar Colony, Shahpur Jat, Sarita Vihar, Malviya Nagar, Chakarpur, and NDMC areas.
