Delhi, India’s capital, is gearing up to reopen its schools on 15th January 2024, following the end of the winter vacation. This reopening comes with significant adjustments in school timings, a response to the ongoing cold wave and fog conditions in the region.
Winter Vacation Comes to an End
The winter break, which started on 1st January, is concluding as North India continues to shiver in the grip of intense cold. Delhi, along with other states like Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, has been experiencing severe cold waves and foggy conditions. Notably, New Delhi recorded its coldest night of the season on 12th January, with temperatures around 3 degrees Celsius.
Adjusted School Timings for Safety
Considering the harsh weather, the Delhi government has announced changes in school timings. As per the official notification, schools will not open before 9 AM and classes will conclude by 5 PM. This change is intended to ensure the safety and comfort of students amid the cold and fog.
Uttar Pradesh Schools Extend Holidays Due to Cold Wave and Fog
In Uttar Pradesh, the relentless grip of cold, chilling winds, and dense fog continues. In response to the severe cold weather conditions, the state government has decided to extend the school holidays, prioritizing the health and safety of children.
Extended School Holidays in Ghaziabad
Following Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad has announced an extension of holidays for all schools. According to the directive issued by the District School Inspector of Ghaziabad, due to extreme cold wave and fog, all educational institutions from nursery to class 12th, both government and private, will be closed on 15th and 16th January 2024. However, during the holiday period, school principals, teachers, and other staff will remain present in schools to continue working on state government schemes and prepare for board examinations.
Schools in Noida to Remain Closed for Junior Classes
The Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration has extended the holidays for schools up to class 8th in Noida till 16th January. Physical classes for all government and private schools from nursery to class 8th will remain closed till 16th January. However, regular classes for students from class 9th to 12th will continue, and all school staff will be working on 16th January 2024.
Extended Winter Break in Other States
In Chandigarh, schools for students up to class 8 will remain closed until 20th January, extending the winter break due to the severe cold. The Director of School Education in Chandigarh, HPS Barad, issued a notice stating that the decision was made to protect children from the extreme cold weather conditions.
