In a historic moment, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to unveil its first Hindu temple in February. Constructed just outside the capital city of Abu Dhabi, this temple not only marks a significant milestone as the country’s first but also stands as the largest in Western Asia. Referred to as the BAPS Hindu Temple, it has been built at a staggering cost of 700 crores.
🏰 Architectural Marvel:
The temple’s construction is a testament to the architectural prowess of the ‘Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha’ (BAPS), known as the BAPS organization.
Renowned for their devotion to Swaminarayan, they have previously erected over 1,100 Hindu temples worldwide. The BAPS Hindu Temple in UAE showcases Vedic architectural principles, utilizing rose-colored sandstone and marble. Standing at an impressive 108 feet, the temple incorporates intricate carvings and sculptures, representing a synergy of artistry and spirituality.
🚀 Construction Journey:
The foundation stone for the temple was laid in 2015 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the UAE. The temple’s construction site spans 17 acres, gifted by the UAE President during PM Modi’s visit.
The BAPS organization, along with over 50,000 individuals, including dignitaries like India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, actor Sanjay Dutt, and Akshay Kumar, has been actively involved in the temple’s construction. The final stages of construction are underway, with the temple expected to open its doors to devotees in February 2024.
⛪️ Unique Features:
The BAPS Hindu Temple boasts unique features, combining Vedic architectural aesthetics with cutting-edge design. The seven shikhars (spires) represent the seven Emirates of the UAE, symbolizing unity. The temple complex includes a cultural center, an exhibition center, and playgrounds for children.
🎉 Grand Inauguration:
The grand inauguration is set to witness the participation of prominent figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and key leaders from Abu Dhabi and the UAE. Preceding the official opening on February 15, 2024, a two-hour-long ‘Festival of Harmony’ will commence on February 10, involving active participation from the Indian community.
