Recent developments have highlighted a list of items that are prohibited on flights from India to the UAE, and it’s essential for travelers to take note of these to avoid any inconvenience during their journey.
In the past few months, there have been various reports and social media posts emphasizing the prohibition of specific items like ghee (clarified butter), pickles, oily food items, and more on flights departing from India to the UAE.
This information stemmed from an announcement by Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), which noted that items such as 943 dry coconuts were seized from passengers’ checked bags in May 2022 alone.

- 🥥 Dry Coconut (Khopra):
- Added to the prohibited list by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) in March 2022.
- Not allowed in either carry-on or checked-in luggage.
- 🚬 E-cigarettes:
- As per BCAS, e-cigarettes are a no-go in both carry-on and checked baggage.
- 🌶️ Spices:
- Carrying spices in carry-on? Think again! Whole or powdered, spices are not permitted in carry-on luggage.
- They are, however, allowed in checked-in baggage.
- 🧈 Ghee (Clarified Butter):
- Carry-on restrictions: falls under Liquid, Aerosols, and Gels (LAGs) with a 100ml limit.
- In checked-in baggage: up to 5kgs of ghee is permissible.
- 🥒 Pickles:
- BCAS guidelines allow pickles in both carry-on and checked-in luggage.
- But, hold off on the chilly pickle in your hand carry!
