Israel airstrikes hit ambulance used by Hamas terrorists in Gaza
In a post on X late Friday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that they had struck and neutralized a Hamas terrorist cell operating within an ambulance in Gaza. The IDF emphasized that the area is a war zone and civilians are repeatedly urged to evacuate for their own safety.
Ambulance used by Hamas terrorists
The IDF stated that the ambulance was being used by a Hamas terrorist cell in close proximity to their position in the battle zone. The strike resulted in the deaths of several Hamas operatives. The IDF also revealed that they have information indicating that Hamas often uses ambulances to transfer terrorists and weapons.
UNRWA reports casualties
Contradicting the IDF’s claims, the UN Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) reported that a convoy of ambulances, evacuating patients from Shifa hospital in Gaza city to the Rafah crossing, was struck three times near the hospital. According to initial reports, at least 13 people were killed and 26 injured in the airstrikes.
ICRC confirms knowledge of the convoy
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) confirmed that they were aware of the planned movement of the medical convoy. However, they stated that they were not part of it. The ICRC condemned any violence towards medical personnel and expressed that no medical professionals should ever die while working to save lives.
Fuel shortages affect hospital operations
The UNRWA reported that due to the severe shortage of fuel in Gaza, one of the generators at Al-Shifa Hospital stopped working on Friday. Another generator is still operational but only covers about half of the hospital’s needs. As a result, 14 out of 35 hospitals with inpatient capacities and 71% of all primary care facilities across Gaza have been forced to shut down.
In summary:
- The IDF struck and neutralized a Hamas terrorist cell operating within an ambulance in Gaza.
- The UNRWA reported casualties from the airstrikes on a medical convoy.
- The ICRC confirmed knowledge of the convoy but stated they were not part of it.
- Fuel shortages have led to the shutdown of hospitals and primary care facilities in Gaza.
