SGPGI to Inaugurate Advanced Diabetic Centre in December
Lucknow, (IANS) ★The Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow is set to inaugurate an advanced diabetic centre on its foundation day in December. The 40-bed centre will begin functioning in January 2024, according to officials.
Modern Equipment and Staff Recruitment Underway
Officials have sent a proposal to the Uttar Pradesh government to purchase modern equipment worth Rs 24 crore for the centre. Additionally, the recruitment process for faculty and nursing staff is also underway.
All-in-One Diabetes Treatment
Patients suffering from diabetes often face complications related to the eye, kidneys, and feet. Currently, these patients have to travel to different departments for treatment. However, with the construction of the advanced diabetic centre, all treatment related to diabetes will be available under one roof, making it more convenient for patients.
A Much-Needed Facility
Endocrinologist Prof. Sushil Gupta emphasized the importance of the centre, stating that it is the need of the hour. He highlighted the prevalence of diabetes in India, with approximately 11.4% of the population, or 101 million individuals, being diabetic. Last year alone, SGPGI’s OPD saw 25,000 new patients, with around 10,000 of them experiencing complications related to diabetes. This included 5,000 patients with renal issues and approximately 600 needing treatment for the management of diabetic foot.
The advanced diabetic centre at SGPGI is expected to significantly improve the quality of care and accessibility for diabetic patients in the region.
