Ghaziabad and Noida plagued by increasing stray dog attacks

Ghaziabad and Noida, the hi-tech districts of Uttar Pradesh, are facing a major problem with increasing cases of dog attacks. Stray dogs roaming on the roads, inside societies, and in parks have been targeting children, elders, and common people, causing distress among the general public. Both districts report over 500 cases of dog bites daily, with more than 1.25 lakh dogs freely roaming the streets.

Sterilization efforts falling short

Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has been conducting sterilization drives since 2013 to control the dog population. However, despite sterilizing 24,580 dogs over the past decade, the number of stray dogs still exceeds 60 thousand. Noida Authority, on the other hand, has registered around 10 thousand pet dogs and sterilized 40 to 45 thousand dogs, but their efforts have not resulted in a decrease in the dog population.

Agencies hired to catch stray dogs

To tackle the issue, Noida Authority has employed two agencies to catch stray dogs. These agencies claim to catch around 1200 dogs every month. Additionally, the government hospital in the district administers about 40 thousand anti-rabies injections annually, highlighting the severity of the problem.

Conflict between dog lovers and residents

A clash between two women over feeding a street dog in a society in Noida recently went viral on social media. Such incidents have become common in high-rise societies, with conflicts arising between animal lovers and the general public. Animal lovers often feed dogs anywhere, leading to stray animals gathering in parks and residential areas. This has created fear among residents as dogs enter houses and create a mess.

Public concern and demand for action

The general public has voiced their concerns against animal lovers who do not feed dogs at designated places and instead feed them anywhere. This practice not only contributes to the aggressive behavior of stray dogs but also puts the public at risk.

Conclusion

The increasing number of dog attacks in Ghaziabad and Noida has become a pressing issue for the residents. Despite efforts by the authorities to sterilize and control the population of stray dogs, the problem persists. Addressing this issue requires effective collaboration between animal welfare organizations, local authorities, and residents to find a sustainable solution.
