Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena joined the G20 tree plantation ceremony at Nehru Park in New Delhi. The ceremony was attended by EAM Jaishankar, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, and the envoys of the US, Egypt, Nigeria, Germany, UK, and South Korea. Saxena expressed the importance of the trees and their growth, stating, “Being in Chanakyapuri, while your excellencies will witness these trees gain ground in your vicinity, your successors will see these trees grow up to their full glory.”
Additionally, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, PK Mishra, discussed the upcoming G20 Virtual Summit. This virtual summit is an initiative proposed by PM Narendra Modi during the New Delhi Summit. Mishra emphasized the need for prompt dissemination of information to all member states and guest countries as this is the first time a virtual summit will follow the main summit.
India took over the G20 presidency on December 1, 2022, and will hold the position until the end of November 2023. The theme for India’s G20 Presidency is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, which signifies ‘One Earth One Family One Future’. The 18th G20 Summit, hosted by India, drew the highest-ever contingent of world leaders and dignitaries. Notable attendees included US President Joe Biden and the Prime Minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak. The event marked the formal induction of the African Union into the G20 grouping and the adoption of a declaration by consensus by participating world leaders.
