About New Jersey’s Akshardham:

The Akshardham temple in New Jersey is the largest temple dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan, a Hindu spiritual leader of the 19th century, outside of India. The construction of the Mahamandir started in 2015 and covers an area of 185 acres. Similar to other Akshardham temples in India, this religious structure was designed in India by a team of BAPS swamis and volunteers. The stone used in the temple was quarried from different parts of Europe, shipped to India for artistic chiseling, and then transported to the US. The temple showcases artistic stone statues and statuettes depicting Indian music, dance, and performing arts, as well as paying tribute to sages, saints, and spiritual personalities of India and Hinduism. The BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham temples globally are renowned landmarks of Hindu art, architecture, and culture. The temple in New Jersey marks the third such cultural complex globally, following those in Gandhinagar and New Delhi.

With the inauguration of the Akshardham temple in New Jersey, the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha adds another remarkable temple to its collection of about 1,400 temples worldwide, including those in India, the UK, the US, Canada, Kenya, South Africa, and Australia.
