Barh Ki Chowki in Delhi Rediscovered as Oldest Police Post

Located in Northwest Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla, Barh Ki Chowki was lying forgotten and in a state of utter neglect until a few years back. Even Delhi Police, which has an anti-theft police post not far from the building, had failed to notice the property which, in fact, belonged to them. But the fortune of the crumbling structure began to change in 2005 when a letter from an official of Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu (Hind) led Delhi Police to the chowki, which, as it turned out, is its oldest existing police post.

Anil Marwah: The Man Who Loves Metro Inaugurations

Anil Marwah (63) has a unique hobby. He likes to take the first Metro whenever the Delhi Metro inaugurates a new station or line. What’s fascinating is that he’s been doing this since December 2002 — the day Delhi Metro began its operations in the capital.

On Sunday afternoon, he stood quietly waiting for the train at the newly inaugurated Yashobhoomi Metro station in Dwarka’s Sector 25. With him is his bag of records — newspaper clippings, a folder containing all first-day editions of Metro smart cards, and his certificate from the Limca Book of World Records.

Marwah’s love for Metros began in the 1990s when he was posted in Tokyo for a year when he worked for Japan Airlines. “I would take the Metro often and wonder when this would ever be a reality in India,” Marwah said. When Delhi Metro began its operations in 2002, Marwah couldn’t resist being part of history.
