New Delhi: No Proposal to Impose Additional GST on Diesel Vehicles, Says Nitin Gadkari
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari clarified on Tuesday that the government is not considering any proposal to impose an additional 10 percent GST on diesel vehicles. Earlier, Gadkari had suggested imposing an additional tax on diesel vehicles as a measure to reduce pollution.
Speaking at the conference of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Gadkari emphasized the need to address the rising pollution levels, which pose a serious concern for public health. He had mentioned that a letter prepared by him would be submitted to the Finance Minister, requesting the imposition of an additional 10 percent GST on diesel engines/vehicles. However, Gadkari later clarified that no such proposal is currently being considered by the government.
Gadkari stressed the importance of adopting clean fuel to reduce emissions and highlighted the government’s target of achieving a 20% ethanol blend in petrol soon.
