New Delhi is currently experiencing severe heat even in the month of September, with temperatures reaching record highs. The Indian Meteorological Department reported that on Monday, September 4, the maximum temperature in New Delhi (Safdarjung) reached 40.1 degrees Celsius, the highest since 2011.

Not only is the heat intense, but the humidity is also causing discomfort to the residents of Delhi. The India Meteorological Department’s Safdarjung Standard Observatory reported that the maximum temperature in Delhi over the past 24 hours was 40.1 degrees Celsius, which is six degrees above the normal level. The minimum temperature was 26.3 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees higher than the average for this season. This marked the first time since June 14 that Delhi’s temperature crossed the 40.1-degree mark, making it the hottest day in the past three months. Typically, temperatures do not reach 40 degrees Celsius in September.

Chance of rain today and tomorrow

The India Meteorological Department has forecasted cloudy skies on Tuesday, with a possibility of light rain at night. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 37 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively. Light rain is also anticipated in Delhi today and tomorrow. Following this, the sky over Delhi is likely to remain cloudy until September 10.

Delhi’s air quality deteriorates

Delhi’s air quality has once again worsened, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. The overall air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded at 233 at 8 pm, falling into the poor category. AQI readings between zero and 50 are considered good, 51 to 100 as satisfactory, 101 to 200 as moderate, 201 to 300 as poor, 301 to 400 as very poor, and 401 to 500 as severe.
