Delhi Commission for Women issues notice to police over alleged rape of elderly woman

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued a notice to the city police in connection with the alleged rape of an 85-year-old woman in the Shakurpur area of the national capital. The victim, who was staying alone in a slum, reported that a man broke into her living area at around 4 am and raped her. The DCW notice states that the accused also punched her face, cut her lip with a blade, and attempted to strangle her. The victim has sustained injuries all over her body, including her private parts.

DCW seeks copy of FIR and information on elderly people living alone

In its notice to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) district, the DCW has requested a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) registered in the matter. Additionally, the commission has asked whether the police have a list of all the elderly people living alone in the district. The DCW has demanded an action taken report on the case by September 5.

Privacy protection for the victim

The identity of the victim has not been revealed in order to protect her privacy, in accordance with the Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault.
